Here's the blunt answer: Arc Raiders is not a PvE-only game, even if you can spend plenty of runs focused on machines, objectives, and extraction. As of August 27, 2026, there is no protected queue where other Raiders cannot attack, so collecting ARC Raiders Items always happens under some level of player-created risk. You can play quietly, avoid fights, and build a machine-focused routine, but the surface never becomes a fully cooperative space.

What "PvE-focused" actually means

The confusion comes from the difference between a peaceful run and an actual PvE mode. Arc Raiders lets you deploy solo or with a squad, fight ARC machines, grab loot, finish objectives, and leave without hunting other players. Sometimes that's exactly how a match goes. But another squad can still appear near an objective, hear your fight, or contest the same extraction. The matchmaking system may lean toward players with similar habits over time, from what I've seen, but it influences odds rather than locking everyone into the same playstyle.

Play style
What you can expect
What is never removed
Machine-focused run
More attention on ARC enemies, loot, and objectives
Possible player encounters
Cautious squad play
Better odds of avoiding unnecessary fights
Contested routes and extraction pressure
Dedicated PvE queue
Not currently available
A guaranteed player-free deployment

Okay, Let's Talk About PvP

Player conflict is not just extra DPS aimed at your squad; it changes every decision around noise, positioning, inventory space, and timing. A loud machine engagement can advertise your location. Staying too long to min-max a loot pile can turn a clean run into a desperate extraction. That's why the game's PvPvE identity feels so different from a co-op shooter with optional competitive modes: the possibility of another Raider affects your route before anyone fires a shot.

The mistake quiet players make

Trying to act friendly is fine, but treating every encounter as friendly is the part that gets expensive. A PvE-minded player needs a fallback plan, not just good intentions. Do this, not that.

Keep a retreat route after finishing a machine encounter instead of standing still to sort loot.
Use cover and distance to assess another squad instead of closing in for a "safe" greeting.
Extract after a successful objective run rather than gambling everything on one more high-value stop.
Match your squad's rules before deployment, because one aggressive teammate can reshape the whole run.

Why a separate mode is harder than it sounds

A real PvE-only option could be great for players who love Arc Raiders' world but dislike direct player combat. It could give friends room to learn routes, understand machine behavior, and enjoy the scavenging loop without every sound cue carrying social tension. Still, simply removing other Raiders would leave a design gap. Machines, objectives, extraction events, and rewards would need more variety and pressure to replace the unpredictability of human decisions. Separate progression would also make sense, since a low-risk economy should not automatically feed the higher-risk shared mode.

The practical verdict

Arc Raiders currently supports a PvE-oriented approach, not PvE-only play. Keep your loadout practical, avoid noisy fights that don't serve an objective, and treat a calm lobby as good fortune rather than a promise. For players planning around loot goals or ARC Raiders Materials for sale, the smart expectation is simple: machines may be your main target, but other Raiders remain part of every deployment's risk calculation.
